Sharpness vs. Softness

As the title suggests, I was experimenting with sharpening and softening a couple of my images.

The trouble I thought I faced with this shot was the green leaves in front of the red ones. I thought softening the picture as a whole made the green leaves jump out less, or if they still do, they do so in a milder fashion.

These birds were fun to shoot out in California. I like this above one more because you see his wingspan better.

This last shot was fun to work with. I have a couple other shots from Joshua Tree when we arrived just as the sun was setting. But this is one of the few shots that actually had some natural daylight in it. I softened the whole shot, but went back with the touch-up tool in Lr, and sharpened the edges of the rocks to hopefully make them stand out more. I toyed with the colors as well…
